The attacker, 31-year-old Rudy Eugene, had previously been identified. The victim has now been identified as Ronald Poppo. Police in Miami have identified the 65-year-old victim, but his identity was first confirmed by both a CBS4 source and by Miami Herald sources.
Earlier reports about the story said that the victim, then unidentified, had 75 percent of his face eaten off. Aside from his goatee (now known to be a beard), it was said, pretty much nothing else was left. Poppo remains in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.
Were Poppo to survive, it would be with a horrific visage, unless he were to get reconstructive surgery. Images have floated around the Internet of the crime scene, and the most horrific we have seen is here (NSFW and disturbing).
